John again teaches us more about who Jesus is and his continued heart for a people who continue to look for signs and a new king rather a relationship with God. With an opportunity to teach a large crowd along with his disciples Jesus performs one of his greatest miracles.

Jesus finds a man at a well called Bethesda - having been located by the well for 38 years Jesus approaches only to ask a question that would offend many of us, 'do you want to get well?' but of course in Jesus' Godly nature we find he reveals the truth behind the mans and our own character.

Knowing what we know about Jesus should cause us to respond to our heart, each other and world differently  than how we once did - yet increasing as life progresses we are drawn back into old patterns so Jesus needs to once again come to us a the well, and we are called to receive living water.

John makes clear that Jesus is preaching what he has seen through the full measure of the spirit, in doing this John articulates and emphasizes a need to respond to what Jesus says even with a crowd and a time where people looked for signs instead of hearing what has been taught.

Nicodemus, a teacher of the law comes to Jesus - as an audience we are kept in the dark regarding his motives, but Jesus knowing all mans motives responds to him as he does to most in this gospel, with a simple reminder than doing the will of our Lord and Father leads to his glory, and through this have the relationship we truly seek with Jesus and God.

Jesus enters the temple, and in every version of the story is moved to righteous action - calling for the removal of animals, stalls and money changers. A great reminder for our own hearts, and this great temple God has provided for us - is it time that Jesus drove out the mess in your heart?

John see's the Messiah and immediately begins Jesus' ministry with the calling of the first disciples. The first chapter concludes by reinforcing a main theme throughout the fourth gospel, and calls us again to remember our relationship with Jesus and his deep love for us.

John turns the narrative to John the Baptist, and his testimony to whom Jesus is and what he represented to mankind. Never losing sight of his role, 'the voice' from the wilderness was not lost in his guilt/sin but rather only acted to lift Jesus up.

John begins his Gospel with a quick prologue, a peak into the invisible history before times creation - but he ensures the time spent delving into history beyond time is short-lived in order to help us understand who Jesus is with distracting from his main point, the mission and God's great love.
